Award Programs & scholarshipsScholarship AwardsAWAR members' children and members themselves are eligible for scholarship award funds from the Federation of American Women's Clubs Overseas of which our association is a member. In recent years, children of AWAR members won FAWCO academic scholarship awards in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2014 and 2016. ACADEMIC AWARDS available for children of membersVIOLA WHEELER ARTS AWARD $4,000: This award is for the study in the performing (dance, voice, instrumental, etc.) and visual (painting, sculpture, etc.) arts, architecture and graphic arts. Both graduate and undergraduate students are eligible. SCIENCES AWARD $ 3,500: This award is for the study of scientific subjects (i.e. biology, chemistry, etc.), mathematics, medicine, engineering, environmental studies, computer science, economics, business administration, etc. Both graduate and undergraduate students are eligible. HUMANITIES AWARD $3,500: This award is for the study of teaching, law, social studies, history, languages, etc. Both graduate and undergraduate students are eligible. DUAL CULTURAL AWARD $1,500: This award may be used to attend a semester of American high school or an academic or structured educational summer program in the United States. The recipient must be between 13 and 18 years old at the time of the application and have lived outside the United States for at least the last six years. IT AWARD FOR YOUNG WOMEN $3,500: This award is for the study of information technology including the study of computer and telecomunication systems, software and application development, information management in the mobile computing space. ACADEMIC AWARDS available to membersSKILLS ENHANCEMENT AWARD $4,000: This award is for acquiring new skills or enhancing already existing ones. The candidate may study in any country. AWC BASEL AWARD FOR UNIVERSITY DEGREE STUDY PROGRAMS sponsored by Shirley Kearney $5,000: This award is for continuing or resuming studies in an undergraduate or graduate level university degree program. The candidate may study in any country. AWAR Merit AwardsAWAR honors students in high schools and universities in Rome for achievements in Italian language and culture, participation in our internship programs and volunteering with our community service programs Peace Through Knowledge AwardAs guests in our host country, we understand the importance for American and other nationality students living here to learn the language and culture of Italy. Since 1965 we have offered an annual Peace Through Knowledge Award to graduating high school students who have been chosen for outstanding accomplishment in these studies. InternshipsAWAR welcomes university student interns for credit who are interested in assisting in its downtown Rome office and with special projects or events. There are opportunities to utilize skills in the fields of desktop publishing, photography, graphic design and event organization. Programs are available for both students who are in Rome with study abroad programs as well as students enrolled in degree programs. English is the only language required. Community ServiceOur Merit Award program recognizes the contributions that university students for credit make as participants in our community service programs in which we are also volunteers. These programs reach out to the Italian community therefore a good working knowledge of Italian can be useful but is not absolutely necessary. | QUICK TIP |
