Our Global Connection
A member of AWAR is also a member of FAWCO.
The Federation of American Women's Clubs Overseas, Inc. is an international network of 64 independent clubs with a combined membership of over 12,000 women in 34 countries worldwide. FAWCO serves as a support network for American women living and working abroad and is particularly active in the fields of US citizens' concerns, education, environmental protection, and women's and children's rights.
Founded in 1931, FAWCO is a not-for-profit corporation registered in the state of New York, a United Nations-accredited non-governmental organization (NGO) in consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), a member of the conference of NGOs, and a founding member of The World Federation of Americans Abroad.
The issues that led to FAWCO's creation continue to be addressed through voter registration drives worldwide; dissemination of information on education, U.S. citizenship, living and working abroad; support for literacy and training programs for women and children in Third World countries; and environmental protection projects. It has been instrumental in obtaining voting rights for overseas U.S. citizens and in making progressive changes in US citizenship laws.
It organizes voter registration drives in member clubs' host countries and disseminates information on primary and secondary education abroad and on American university education.
