AWAR members and their children are eligible for and frequently awarded scholarship funds from the FAWCO.
Academic Awards for Members
SKILLS ENHANCEMENT AWARD: $4000 for acquiring new skills or enhancing already existing ones. The candidate may study in any country.
AWC BASEL AWARD FOR UNIVERSITY DEGREE STUDY PROGRAMS sponsored by Shirley Kearney: $5000 for continuing or resuming studies in an undergraduate or graduate level university degree program. The candidate may study in any country.
Academic Awards for Children of Members
VIOLA WHEELER ARTS AWARD: $4000 for the study of performing and visual arts, architecture and graphic arts. Both graduate and undergraduate students are eligible.
SCIENCES AWARD: $3500 for the study of scientific subjects, mathematics, medicine, engineering, environmental studies, computer science, economics, business administration, etc. Both graduate and undergraduate students are eligible.
HUMANITIES AWARD: $3500 for the study of teaching, law, social studies, history, languages, etc. Both graduate and undergraduate students are eligible.
DUAL CULTURAL AWARD: $1500 to be used to attend a semester of American high school or an academic or structured educational summer program in the United States. The recipient must be between 13 and 18 years old at the time of application, having lived outside the United States for at least the past six years.
IT AWARD FOR YOUNG WOMEN: $3500 for the study of information technology, including computer and telecommunication systems, software and application development, and information management in the mobile computing space.
AWAR Merit Awards
AWAR honors students in high schools and universities in Rome for achievements in Italian language and culture, participation in our internship programs and volunteering with our community service programs
PEACE THROUGH KNOWLEDGE AWARD
Since 1965, we have offered this annual award to graduating high school students chosen for outstanding achievement in Italian language and culture studies. The following schools in Rome participate in this program:

GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP AMBASSADOR AWARD
In the context of increasing globalization, students must increasingly embrace an international spirit and act as ambassadors of their country. This award recognizes a student who:
acts as a role model by showing an outstanding international spirit
sets high personal standards for his/her academic and social achievement
shows a sense of respect for other cultures and points of view
exhibits ethical and balanced behavior
is a positive and active member of the community, with a caring and empathetic attitude
uses communication skills to benefit both local and global communities
puts knowledge into action with a long-term vision of helping to create a better world

Internships
AWAR offers internship credits to university students interested in assisting with special projects or events. There are opportunities in photography, graphic design and event organization. English is the only language required.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Our Merit Award program recognizes the contributions that university students for credit make as participants in our community service programs in which we are also volunteers. These programs reach out to the Italian community therefore a good working knowledge of Italian can be useful but is not absolutely necessary.
