A Talk on Benvenuto Cellini

  • March 21, 2019

Benvenuto Cellini, Artistic Genius and Bad Boy of the Renaissance was the title of the program at our March General Meeting and luncheon with guest speaker Dr. Patsy Erskine-Hill.

Cellini is famous for his intricately-detailed bronze statues, probably the most important of which from an artistic and technicaloint of view is the Perseus which stands in the Loggia della Signoria in Florence. Pictured here is a detail from the statue showing the head of Perseus.

Dr. Patsy Erskine-Hill was brought up in Italy, France and Switzerland and lectures widely to historical societies, university groups, special interest associations and on cruises. Her interests include the society, art, and architecture of Imperial Russia, Italian history, art and culture, and the England in the 18th century.
