AWAR’s Roman Kitchen: Food and Memories from the members of AWAR
with special guest and editor Maureen Fant and the amazing team who conceived, designed, edited, and produced it
AWAR’s Roman Kitchen has over 130 recipes contributed by more than 40 AWAR members, with 16 pages of color photographs and other art, all by members. But it’s not just a cookbook. The recipes are punctuated with anecdotes, memories, and additional information to round out the portrait of an international membership keeping faith with their own traditions while coming to joyful terms with life in Rome.

This book aims to tell the story, through their experiences in their own Roman kitchens, of a group of adventurous, inquisitive, creative, active women from all over the world. …
What did we learn about the members? Nostalgia for the cooking of mothers and grandmothers is strong among both Italian and American members. American brides often bonded with Italian mothers-in-law through food. Many husbands, both Italian and American, are the chief cooks at home. …
Our collective work on the book was a welcome distraction from our own imposed inactivity and loneliness [during the socially distanced months]. Along the way, as we planned and worked and corresponded with AWAR members, often in distant parts of the world, we truly understood the spirit of friendship that AWAR represents.
