Join AWAR member Julia Griner and Ars Italica’s John Giovannini for a walk and talk in Rome’s ghetto neighbourhood touring the Portico d’Ottavia and its fish market history. John will outline the significance of the area as well as give us details that pertain to caviar’s history in Italy.
Northern Italy is now the foremost supplier of high-end caviar in the world, so why not taste some of the best of this luxury product from one of Italy’s most dedicated producers? The Giovannini and Mandelli families aim to produce a caviar of exceptional quality by controlling their entire supply chain, which has allowed them to rise to the top of their field. Their dedication, together with their colleagues, led to the birth of an all-Italian hub of world-wide importance for the production of sturgeon and caviar, profiled in a splendid documentary by ARTE TV.
After the walking tour, we will taste (and learn to appreciate the subtleties of) three kinds of caviar, on its own and on homemade blinis with sour cream. The tasting is accompanied by a glass or two of prosecco.
Cost: 50€ per person
Minimum 10 people, maximum 20. Register online by October 25! After that date, the registration fee is unfortunately NONREFUNDABLE.
