We have another exciting private tour with our enlightening guide, Livia Galante. This ancient harbor city near Rome is an amazing archaeological park, similar to Pompeii but twice the size. We'll learn about its origins as a military garrison protecting the salt pans at the mouth of the Tiber and its transformation into the warehouse of Rome. We'll walk by what were once the luxury summer estates of the Patricians, as well as ordinary homes, bakeries, and restaurants, giving us a deeper understanding of Roman society through the centuries.

The park is located approximately 40 minutes from Rome’s city center. It's not suitable for people with mobility issues, as the ground is very uneven. Comfortable shoes are recommended, as well as water, a hat, and sunscreen.

There is a snack bar inside the excavations for a quick break halfway through the tour. A lunch will be arranged afterward at a nearby restaurant, for those interested. Details to follow.

The tour DOES NOT include sites of Port of Trajan, Necropolis of Portis or Museum of Roman Ships, but your ticket will be valid for 8 days from first use, should you wish to visit other sites in Ostia Antica.

The tour will be approximately three hours with short break halfway through.

Getting there: Metro Blue Line B, exit Piramide and catch train to Ostia Antica exit, walk across the footbridge approximately 7 minutes to ticket booth where host will check you in and give you your ticket.

Register and pay online by April 30!

Cost: 40 per person for members, 45€ per guest. Minimum 15 participants, maximum 25. No refunds or cancellations, but tickets are transferable between members with notification to activities@awar.org.
