"The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas
The AWAR Book Club is back again with our usual Zoom meeting on the fourth Monday of the month. We'll be talking about the book announced as our summer read, but it's so fast moving that you could whip through it right now. We decided to go back in time for the 1856 classic and ultimate adventure story, The Count of Monte Cristo. It follows the tale of the young and falsely-imprisoned Edmond Dantes. A fake identity, betrayal, revenge, love, danger, riches...you name it. We can almost see Tom Cruise as Edmond, in Victorian tights, escaping from a rocky island fortress. And FYI, the best translation of this French chef-d'oeuvre is a free download on Kindle.
