Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata
Literature is a door through which we walk into other lives, and in them often see something of our own. Many of us have some acquaintance with male Japanese writers and their vision of their lives. But what about Japanese women writers?
For this month's book, we're looking to the much acclaimed Sayaka Murata and her early 2010 success with the novel Convenience Store Woman.
Murata is a highly acclaimed contemporary Japanese writer known for her unsettling, razor-sharp fiction that challenges societal norms, gender roles, and the definition of "normalcy". She is widely regarded as one of the most striking voices in modern Japanese literature, with works translated into over 30 languages.
